4th Bauerfeind Phlebology Award
International jury elects outstanding study design in compression ther
At the Asian Chapter Meeting of the IUP to be held in Kyoto in June 2007 the Bauerfeind Phlebology Award will be presented for the fourth time by the International Union of Phlebology and Bauerfeind. The deadline for applications for study designs on compression therapy is March 30, 2007.
The international jury evaluating the applications is composed of Prof. Hugo Partsch, Austria, past president of IUP and chairman of the jury, Prof. Shunichi Hoshino, Japan, president of the Asian Chapter Meeting of the IUP, Dr. Yared Herouy, Germany, award winner of the first award, Dr Helane S. Fronek, USA, Dr. Jean-Patrick Benigni, France and Dr Gyözö Szolnoky, Hungary.
It has been demonstrated that about 18 percent of the adult German population suffers from severe stages of venous disease like oedema, skin changes and venous ulcers of the legs. About 128,000 cases of deep leg vein thrombosis are diagnosed every year. Only an early and systematic treatment helps to prevent such disorders from advancing. Compression therapy is the basic treatment.

The Bauerfeind Phlebology Award is endowed with EURO 20,000 Euro and will be given in two parts of EURO 10,000 each.
The prerequisite for participating in this contest is to present a study design aiming to clarify important features of compression therapy together with at least three papers on this topic in the last five years. The study protocol and a curriculum vitae have to be submitted in English. All entries have to be submitted by Friday, March 30, 2007.
